PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Dear Parents,
LONG
SERVICE LEAVE
Thank you for an
amazing term. In the last newsletter I outlined many of the activities that
have come together over the past 11 weeks to make Mentone park Primary School a
hive of activity, learning and fun. This all culminated with student reports
that were sent home on Monday and then the parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday
evening. Thank you to those parents who attended and if you were unable to but
would like to make a time please contact your child’s teacher for a catch up
during Term 3. We are very proud of the learning team we have here and
recognize that parents play a vital role in that partnership.
FRIDAY
JUNE 29 – LAST DAY – 2:30PM FINISH
Tomorrow all
students will be dismissed after our assembly in the hall at 2:30.pm OSHClub
will be available at this time.
ALISON
LOUGH
Only last night
I received a phone call from Alison with the news that she will be continuing her
role at Ballam Park PS for Term 3. She has introduced a number of initiatives
within their community and she would like to see them through to completion.
More information will be made available regarding her role as soon as it comes
to hand.
Jayne and Nick
have done a wonderful job filling in for her this term and I am sure you will
join me in thanking them for their outstanding application and dedication to
the role and most importantly to their students.
WORKING
BEE SUCCESS
Thank you to the
families and staff who attended our Working Bee last weekend. In the 3 hours we
were able to shift 10 cubic meters of soft fall to our playgrounds,
reinvigorate many of our garden beds as well as move some excess furniture into
the storage container. Special thanks also to the students who joined in to
help with the upkeep of their school.
Thank you: Sue
Beer and Noela Unwin, Arlene Davies, Peter, Carolyn, Jordan and Casey Allen,
June Ye, Linda Cheek, Andrew and Mitchell Davis, Dana and Matt Killmister, Ron
Jefferies, Rachel Perry, Ben, Tom and Kate Ovenden and Scott and Zara
Roberts.
SENIOR
CAMP TO CANBERRA
On Monday July
23 our Senior School head off for a week in Canberra. This trip is always a
highlight and we look forward to hearing of their exciting adventures. Parents
if you haven’t yet finalised payment arrangements can you please do so at your
earliest convenience.
At the beginning
of next term Jo-Ann Struthers and Monica Smith will be taking 4 weeks Long
Service Leave to spend time overseas with their respective families.
Arrangements during this time have been communicated to the classes. I will
also be taking 3 days Long Service Leave, returning to school on Thursday July
19.
ENROLMENT
FOR 2019
Don’t forget that
you can pick up an enrolment form from the office if you have a child starting
Foundation in 2019. As I have mentioned previously we already have a number of
new families enrolled for 2019, many of whom have heard positive feedback from
the community about our wonderful school.
Some of you may
have seen our new Foundation student T- shirts that were given out. If you have
a child starting in Foundation next year and haven’t received your t-shirt please
come to the office to collect your t-shirt. As it says on the t-shirt you are all
a

LET
US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS AWAY
If your child is away from school can you please
either Flexibuzz or call the office to let us know as soon as possible. Many of
you will remember the recent media attention around this issue and due to a
change of policy, schools will be required to notify parents when a child is
absent. Your assistance with this will help us make sure that all students are
safe.
Best wishes

Principal

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Dear Mentone Park Families,
Welcome to another year at school and the beginning of a new issue of Scholastic Book Club catalogues!. Orders can be left with the office or please order via the online ordering system called “LOOP” - details are in the catalogue. When ordering there is an option to mark as a gift if you would like your order sent to the office instead of to class for your child to take home.
To families new to our school the Scholastic Book Club generates reward points which we claim back throughout the year as new books and resources for teachers to use in class. Each book club order earns 20% in rewards points – they soon add up! Scholastic often have some great books on special for as little as $2, so look out for their “gold coin books” in the catalogue
If you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office or call the Scholastic Customer Service number 1800 021 233.
Best wishes
