PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Dear Parents,
I would like to start my first newsletter with
a big thank you to the entire Mentone Park Primary School community for the warm
welcome I have received. It has been amazing for me to walk around the school
and have so many students and parents come up and introduce themselves every
day. Your smiling faces just reinforce what a privilege it is for me to be the
Principal of such a wonderful school community. If you have not done so,
already please come up and say hello.
As I met all of the classes, there were some
very consistent questions from the students so I thought I would answer them
here. I am married and have two wonderful children. My 7 year old daughter is
in Grade 2 this year at a local school to where we live and my 4 year old son
is enjoying time, either at home or kinder without his big sister.
With term 2 well underway and school tours beginning to be booked in I look forward to talking with prospective families about just how welcoming I have found Mentone Park PS and how their families will feel exactly the same.

The answer to the second most popular question
that I have been asked is... Hawthorn. Every day our teachers talk with the
students about confidence, resilience and teamwork as a means to achieving
their best so I definitely hope that the Hawks can show the same values as our
hard working students.
I have been working in education for 19 years
and feel very excited about the opportunity to work with such a wonderful community.
Before that, I studied Biological Science with a focus on the Marine Sciences
whilst working part time in Disability Services. I then moved into this area
full time, which lead me into Education.
As I said before, please come and introduce
yourself when you have a chance and I look forward to getting to know everyone in
our amazing school community.
JUNIOR MAYOR ELECTION
This morning I
accompanied our 4 wonderful Year 6 leaders to the Chelsea Town Hall for the
Kingston Junior Mayor Elections. Focusing on the topic “What are the benefits
of young people volunteering in the community?" 26 schools each presented
a 2 minute speech to an audience of over 200 people. Our candidate Nat along
with Eliza, Sonia and Jack delivered their speech with a sense of confidence
generally reserved for students much older than themselves. Congratulations
team, we are all very proud of you.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Today my report is all about FUNDRAISING!!
Being in a relatively small school has so many advantages, but also comes with a few challenges - mainly being access to funding for upgrading our school buildings and grounds, purchasing equipment and developing programs. This is where fundraising plays such an important role. I am so proud of our school community and the way everyone so willingly supports our fundraising efforts with money, time or donations of goods.
SCHOOL FETE
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who supported our school fete last term! I am proud to announce that we raised $17000 to go towards our goal of air conditioning the hall and making some upgrades to the hall kitchen.
A very big thank you to our fete committee, in particular Wendy Davis, Lyndall Russell and Nicky Edwards who were there from the start putting together every intricate detail to ensure the day ran smoothly. There were many other parents involved throughout the process and we are so thankful to you all - too many to name in one newsletter!
Please enjoy scrolling through these fun photos from the day!
GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL
I would like to thank and congratulate Jodi O'Sullivan for her mammoth effort to raise money for the Good Friday Appeal on behalf of Mentone Park Primary School. Jodi volunteered to shave her head to raise money and was joined by several brave students who also shaved their heads for the cause! Jodi's Everyday Hero page raised $3071.08 for the Royal Children's Hospital and another $326 was raised on Crazy Hair day at school through donations to the Good Friday Appeal Tins.
Good news is, if you would still like to donate to the RCH, you can do so by following this link to Jodi's page:

SIDS and KIDS
I am proud to announce that the Poppy Bon memorial page set up to raise funds for SIDS and Kids has raised $9245. Red Nose Day is coming up on the 30th June and we look forward to supporting this important cause. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so by following this link:
