PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents,

EDUCATION WEEK – THANK YOU

Thank you to all of the families who attended our Open Night last Thursday. It was great to see so many smiling faces and proud students as they showed you all around the school. With a focus on Curiosity and Powerful Learning, Science was all the rage as our senior classes displayed their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects, the middle school created a gooey cornflower slim and chocolate sauce and the junior classes mixed food dye with different liquids to create all sorts of combinations.

Coupling these ”hands on” learning opportunities with student pride and excitement and you have a very successful display of the what makes MPPS so special.
The TV in the foyer will soon display many of the photos from the night as well as some general reminders of upcoming events at Mentone Park PS.

Costco Moorabbin are offering Mentone Park Primary School families the opportunity to experience their store without committing to a membership program. The VIP “One Time Shop” event is an occasion where non Costco members are able to experience a shopping trip without paying the $60 membership fee prior to coming in and deciding if Costco Moorabbin is “right” for them.

It will be a 3 day event from June 23 - 25. The warehouse trading hours are (Friday 10am-8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am-6:30pm and Sunday 10am-6pm), so parents and staff are welcome to come on those days during these times.

If you would like to be part of this one off experience please contact the school office ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY JUNE 9 and leave your details. COSTCO will then deliver the invitations the following week to school and we will distribute them to you before the event.

REPORTING TO PARENTS

Teachers are currently preparing your child’s mid-year report and I have been impressed with the dedication our staff have shown towards preparing a report that celebrates the successes of all students, whilst outlining the next curriculum steps and future learning goals.

Next week I will be outlining a few changes to the reporting document and processes but one thing that never changes is that if you have any questions about your child’s progress, or learning journey, you are always welcome to make an appointment to see your child’s teacher. Open dialogue is the simplest way of removing confusion and sharing your child’s progress.

ENROLLING FOR 2018

Don’t forget if you have a child starting next year please grab an enrolment form from the office and get it back to us as soon as possible. Planning is well underway for Term 3 and 4 transition activities and we would love to see you there.

If you know of any families looking for a great school then please get them to give us a call. I am currently conducting a number of individual and personalized tours allowing parents to ask specific questions about how we can best meet the needs of their families.

SENIOR CAMP IS FAST APPROACHING

The Grade 5/6 educational camp is being held from Monday June 26th to Friday June 30th at Coolamatong, located on the shore of Lake Victoria, 16 kilometres from Bairnsdale.

The trained staff at Coolamatong and the staff from our school will be running and supervising all activities. Facilities include recreation and dining rooms, table tennis, volleyball, billiards table, basketball rings, billy carts and unicycles. Activities include hiking, canoeing, orienteering, bush cooking, initiative course, ropes course, sailing, climbing, and a Gippsland Lakes cruise.

The aim of the school camp program is to present the curriculum within a different setting. It also encourages students to develop social skills whilst working in co-operative teams.

If you haven’t finalised payment please be aware that this needs to be completed by Monday June 12.

Best Wishes
Cameron Agars
Principal
