Dear Parents,

WELCOME BACK
I trust that all of our families had a wonderful break and made some time to connect and relax. No doubt many of you engaged in Grand Final activities and celebrated accordingly. I know this was a very special time for a few of our “Tiger” teachers but we can’t forget the magnificent win by the Storm also. The success of both of these teams was no doubt due to their persistence, resilience and determination, which are qualities we can all follow in our day to day lives.

VISION MEETING – Last one tonight
As per my letter last week I will be conducting the second of my parent Forums tonight where I will outline the vision for Mentone Park PS into what promises to be an exciting future. This will be an opportunity for you to hear about the strategic direction the school is on and how we can all work together to provide a wonderful educational journey for your children. We will kick off at 6pm sharp in the Performing Arts room, with our October PFA meeting to start @ 7:15.

NEW COMPUTERS IN THE SENIOR SCHOOL THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY
Recently we have purchased 30 new Lenovo Netbooks for the senior school and these were set up over the holidays. A large portion of the funds raised recently from the numerous PFA events have been committed to this purchase so not only do the staff thank you for your generosity but more importantly so do the students who will benefit from our new laptops ……… THANK YOU!!
CLUBS
Three new clubs started this term with Mandala Drawing starting this Monday, as well as Drama Wednesdays and Chess Fridays. Announcements and reminders are put over the PA and a prompt attendance means a longer session. There are still places available for Chess so if your child would like to start then please contact Chess Ideas on 9532 8370 or admin@chessideas.com.au

MONDAY MORNING ASSEMBLIES
With the warmer weather upon us we will be holding Monday morning assemblies for Term 4. These will only run for approximately 10 minutes and parents are welcome to head to the Kids Café after for a coffee and a chat following.

GRADE 6 GRADUATION
Don’t forget Monday’s and Thursdays are Icy-Pole days as we raise money for our Grade 6 students and their graduation ceremony. We will also have our teachers v students basketball game tomorrow (Friday) with a sausage sizzle lunch. For only $1.50 the students will enjoy a hot sausage in bread and a high quality (?????) game of competitive basketball.

Best wishes

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

UPDATED SCHOOL RULES

To align with our Play is the Way and Restorative Practices approaches, as well as our school values, we have updated our school rules to reflect the concepts, ideas and values that we build into our daily practices at Mentone Park. We feel the way we are teaching, displaying and referring to our school rules and subsequent staged response for students not following the rules, help give the students more responsibility for their own actions and assist them in developing their resilience, empathy and independence.

The students are all aware of what the rules are, why they are important for maintaining a safe and productive environment and what the consequences will be if they are not able to abide by them.

These new documents have been shared with our Education Committee and School Council.

Please take some time to look over them and chat to your children about what they mean and how they help to keep our school running smoothly and happily!
