PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Dear Parents,
What an amazing
term it’s been and we still have a few weeks to go. Obviously the big news was
the planning money we were given by the Victorian Government to begin
discussions around the exciting future of Mentone Park PS. We are currently in
the early stages but in the near future we will be seeking community input as
to our future growth of our great school. I will keep you all updated as we
navigate this exciting development. We have also had Open Nights, Italian Day
and Senior Sports Carnivals and I know the Middle School are off on an
excursion next week so the great things keep rolling on for your children.
Coupled with engaging and rigorous learning opportunities it certainly is a
great time to be at Mentone Park.
Lock in your diaries an hour or 2 on Saturday June 23 for our next working bee. Jobs include general garden maintenance and upkeep of your children’s school. A complete jobs list will be published in the next week.
STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
The
season of Winter is here and this week will be all about it. From Winter sports
to Winter painting, OSHClub will be making the most of this chilly season.

BUNNINGS
BBQ TOMORROW
Thank you to the PFA for their organization of our annual Bunnings BBQ in Mentone. Thank you also to the wonderful parents and community members who are volunteering to cook sausages and serve happy customers who won’t be able to resist the smell of a good BBQ sausage. If you are unable to help out but find yourself needing a plant, a hammer or a new lawn mower please come down to Bunnings Mentone and support our volunteers and our school.

REPORTING
AND ASSESSMENT
Over the past few weeks teachers have been assessing, moderating and writing to provide you with a clear picture of your child’s progress over the past semester. They have also been planning future learning goals for your children’s educational journey. These written reports will be sent home on Monday June 25, with interviews taking place on Tuesday June 26. Whilst reporting and assessment is ongoing and part of everyday practice, please take advantage of this opportunity to engage with your child’s teacher and be an active participant in your child’s educational journey.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Yesterday and
today Jayne, Nick and I have been engaging with Principals and Assistant
Principals from all over our region at a conference entitled Leading Excellence
in Teaching and Learning. We have heard from some amazing internationally
recognized speakers and engaged with numerous activities that we are excited to
bring back to school and share with our staff.
NO
TRASH TUESDAY
Our Green Gang
would like to remind all families about No Trash Tuesday. Where possible all
food is to come to school in a container, helping to eliminate rubbish from our
yard.
ENROLMENT
FOR 2019
Don’t forget that
you can pick up an enrolment form from the office if you have a child starting
Foundation in 2019. As I have mentioned previously we already have a number of
new families enrolled for 2019, many of whom have heard positive feedback from
the community about our wonderful school. We have also organised a special gift
for our newly enrolled Foundation students. Stay tuned.
LET
US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS AWAY
If your child is
away from school, can you please either Flexibuzz or call the office to let us
know as soon as possible? Many of you will remember the recent media attention
around this issue and due to a change of policy, schools will be required to
notify parents when a child is absent. Your assistance with this will help us
make sure that all students are safe.
Best wishes

Principal

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Dear Mentone Park Families,
Welcome to another year at school and the beginning of a new issue of Scholastic Book Club catalogues!. Orders can be left with the office or please order via the online ordering system called “LOOP” - details are in the catalogue. When ordering there is an option to mark as a gift if you would like your order sent to the office instead of to class for your child to take home.
To families new to our school the Scholastic Book Club generates reward points which we claim back throughout the year as new books and resources for teachers to use in class. Each book club order earns 20% in rewards points – they soon add up! Scholastic often have some great books on special for as little as $2, so look out for their “gold coin books” in the catalogue
If you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office or call the Scholastic Customer Service number 1800 021 233.
Best wishes
Jenny O – Book club coordinator
