PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and managed to spend some quality time with family and friends without the daily school routines. Whilst it may often seem like kids have boundless energy and the ability to keep going and going, its times like these when we must remember to slow down and have those chats with our kids that connect who they are and what is going on in our fast paced lives.

100 DAYS OF FOUNDATION – WEDNESDAY AUGUST 1

A very exciting milestone is approaching for our Foundation students with a celebration of their first 100 days of school to occur on Wednesday August 1. I know plans are underway for this very exciting day and one that I am sure our older students will remember fondly.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION DATE – TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 4
After much negotiation and logistical management our school production will be held at the Kingston Arts Centre on Tuesday September 4. Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to relocate from Parkdale SC and as such we will be running our concert over 2 sessions with a lunchtime matinee and then an evening session. There will also be a dress rehearsal in the morning for the students to get experience stage time without the glare of a large audience. More information will be provided next week.

CANBERRA CAMP UPDATE
Our Level 5 and 6 students headed off to Canberra on Monday morning for an exciting and informative trip around our nation’s capital. With regular stops along the way they arrived safely and set about preparing for the weeks adventures. Stops so far include the National Museum of Australia, the AIS, Questacon and Parliament House. Today I travelled up to meet the team and look forward to sharing in some great stories, adventures and learning opportunities.
At this stage the bus is due to arrive back at school around 5pm however you will be informed of a more accurate time via FlexiBuzz.

CLUBS AND EXTRA CURRICULA ACTIVITIES
Mentone Park Primary School is proud to offer a number of extra curricula clubs and activities for the students to explore their passions and interests. Currently the following activities are available, either at lunchtime or after school.
  • Grasshopper Soccer – 3:45 Mondays
  • Limelight Drama – 1.40pm – 2.30pm Wednesdays
  • Art Smart – 3:40pm – 5.00pm Thursdays
  • SportStar Academy Tennis – 3:30pmThursdays
Please see flyers below for more information.

NO TRASH TUESDAY

Our Green Gang would like to remind all families about No Trash Tuesday. Where possible all food is to come to school in a container, helping to eliminate rubbish from our yard.

ENROLMENT FOR 2019
Don’t forget that you can pick up an enrolment form from the office if you have a child starting Foundation in 2019. As I have mentioned previously we already have a number of

new families enrolled for 2019, many of whom have heard positive feedback from the community about our wonderful school. We have also organised a special gift for our newly enrolled Foundation students.

LET US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS AWAY
If your child is away from school can you please either FlexiBuzz or call the office to let us know as soon as possible? Many of you will remember the recent media attention around this issue and due to a change of policy, schools will be required to notify parents when a child is absent. Your assistance with this will help us make sure that all students are safe.

Best wishes

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Dear Mentone Park Families,

Welcome to another year at school and the beginning of a new issue of Scholastic Book Club catalogues!. Orders can be left with the office or please order via the online ordering system called  “LOOP”  - details are in the catalogue. When ordering there is an option to mark as a gift if you would like your order sent to the office instead of to class for your child to take home.

To families new to our school the Scholastic Book Club generates reward points which we claim back throughout the year as new books and resources for teachers to use in class. Each book club order earns 20% in rewards points – they soon add up! Scholastic often have some great books on special for as little as $2, so look out for their “gold coin books” in the catalogue

If you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office or call the Scholastic Customer Service number 1800 021 233.

Best wishes
