Dear Parents,
There is only
one item that deserves to lead our newsletter this week, that is our wonderful matinee and evening
‘Under The Big Top’ performance on Tuesday. Weeks and weeks of rehearsals
culminated in 60 minutes of excitement, nerves, laughs and memories for every
one of our amazing students, and the positive feedback has been due recognition
of all the hard work.
Thank you to all
of our staff for their wonderful commitment to creating this performance.
Afternoon dance sessions, lunchtime rehearsals and weekend shopping trips for
that perfect set of glitter vests and hats were all greatly appreciated.
A DVD was
produced from the evening session and sales will begin shortly.
OUR
NEW FRONT GARDEN
Thank you to
Jayne O’Neill, the Green Gang and a long list of parent volunteers for their
work on our new front garden. It looks amazing and is really creating a
conversation throughout the street. Even the neighbours' without kids at the
school have complimented the new entrance. Please see Jayne’s article below for
more details and a list of our parent volunteers.
ATHLETICS
SUPERSTARS
This week has been
extremely busy with last Fridays postponed District Athletics Carnival taking
place on Monday. Congratulations to all of our students, not only for the way
they sprinted, jumped and threw, but also the way they represented themselves
and our school with pride and distinction.
NAPLAN
Yesterday the
NAPLAN results for students in Years 3 and 5 were sent home to parents. Please
remember that these results are just a snapshot of learning in the areas of
Writing, Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Numeracy and do not display the full
complement of student achievement. Since NAPLAN took place in May, teaching,
learning and assessment has taken place in the classroom and all specialist
learning areas.
OUR
BUILDING WORKS ARE GETTING CLOSER
On Tuesday
morning Andrew Davis, Jayne O’Neill and I showed representatives from the Victorian
School Building Authority and representatives from 2 architectural firms around
our school and outlined the vision we have for substantial growth and
development. These firms will present to us, probably early in Term 4 and we
will then enter more detailed discussions with the preferred company.
WHO
WANTS TO HAVE A PARTY?
Later this year
Mentone Park PS will turn 50 and we want to celebrate. Our PFA have put
together some great ideas for discussion and staff have found many old photos
and memorabilia that will be on display during Term 4. Keep an eye on the
newsletter and our schools Facebook page for updates and ways that you can get
involved.
FOOTY
COLOURS DAY ON THE LAST DAY OF TERM
Friday September
21
is Footy Colours Day where students can come dressed in the team’s colours and
donate a gold coin to cancer research. You may choose AFL, A League, EPL, or Rugby
and wear your colours with pride.
NO
TRASH TUESDAY
Our Green Gang
would like to remind all families about No Trash Tuesday. Where possible all
food is to come to school in a container, helping to eliminate rubbish from our
yard.
ENROLMENT
FOR 2019
Don’t forget that
you can pick up an enrolment form from the office if you have a child starting
Foundation in 2019. As I have mentioned previously we already have a number of
new families enrolled for 2019, many of whom have heard positive feedback from
the community about our wonderful school. We have also organised a special gift
for our newly enrolled Foundation students.
LET
US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS AWAY
If your child is
away from school can you please either Flexibuzz or call the office to let us
know as soon as possible. Many of you will remember the recent media attention
around this issue and due to a change of policy, schools will be required to
notify parents when a child is absent. Your assistance with this will help us
make sure that all students are safe.
Best wishes

MPPS GREEN GANG GARDEN
Our
gorgeous front garden at MPPS is finished and looks amazing!
Many
helpers have assisted the Green Gang with everyone working very hard to achieve
our vision and we are very proud of the results. Students were involved in many
sessions discussing, designing, choosing plants, planting and mulching.
Special
thanks to Cherie and Brian Harrison, Ron Jeffries and Lisa Thomasson for their
time and assistance with this project. We can’t thank them enough for their
support.
I
am sure you have heard about our exciting whole school pole painting project
that took place last week. Pop in and have a look at your child’s contribution to
their class pole.

What is the money raised going

This has the potential to be a big point of difference for our school, also is
going to cost at least $50,000! All the money raised from the ticket sales
and fundraising activities through this event will go directly towards the STEM
Room.

this event, please contact Kate on 0411 643 044. There is a huge opportunity
for great exposure at this event!
